Homesick After Moving
If you’ve recently moved, whether its locally within the same city, or to a new state, you might be experiencing some feelings of nostalgia for your old home, or the state in which you where living. In some cases these feelings of homesickness can take longer to come to the surface. If you are, or have been experiencing nostalgia, it is a natural emotion that will disappear over a period time.
One way to determine if you are homesick is if you’re feeling depressed, anxious or nostalgic. Any one of these symptoms could arise at any time. To help you through this phase, getting out and about in your new community will take your mind off the old and onto the new. Create new routines. Don’t forget about your past, where you moved from, if possible, stay connected. This might be through friends, or family. Staying healthy is also a good way of not letting homesickness take over. Make sure to exercise and eat a healthy diet. If you don’t already have an exercise routine, just going for a walk regularly will lift your spirits.
Stay in touch
If at any stage you feel that your nostalgia for what was, has gone on for too long, don’t hesitate to call upon a friend, a family member, or even a professional to help you process these emotions. Once you have talked about it and taken steps to overcome these feelings, you will be ready to move forward and enjoy where you’re now living.
